The new 2018 ICD-10-CM codes are to be used for discharges occurring from Oct. 1, 2017 through Sept. 30, 2018, and for patient encounters occurring from Oct. 1, 2017 through Sept. 30, 2018. In this year's new code set there are 363 new codes, 142 deletions, and 226 code revisions.

• New codes under Endocrine, Nutritional, and Metabolic Diseases (E00-E89), for Type 2 diabetes.
  
• New classifications under Mental, Behavioral and Neurodevelopmental disorders (F01-F99) for Alcohol, Opioid and Cannabis dependence. 
  
• Code revisions and added specificity under Diseases of the eye (H00-H59)
  
• Code revisions under Diseases of the circulatory system (I00-I99) including Hypertensive heart disease.
