How to Delete or Void a Claim

Deleting or Voiding a Claim

Unreleased claims can be Deleted, Released claims cannot be Deleted, they can only be Voided. Released claims with payments applied cannot be Voided until those payments are reversed or removed.
Deleting and Voiding are permanent and cannot be reversed once initiated.

Deleting a Claim

If the claim has never been Released, it can be Deleted. This applies to claims that have the following statuses: For Review, For Client Review, For Billing Approval, or Pre-Released.

Warning -- deleting a claim is not reversible.

To delete a claim:
  1. Go to the Claim-General tab

  2. Enter a “Claim ID” and click “GO”

  3. Once the claim data has loaded on the Claim-General tab, click the "Delete" button just above the Patient Name field

  4. Click Yes to confirm your request.

Voiding a Claim

If a claim has been Released, it cannot be Deleted, but it can be Voided. Voided claims are still shown on the Patient Transaction History screen for auditing purposes. If a Released claim already has payments applied to it, it cannot be Voided until those payments are reversed or moved to Unapplied.

(For customers on Per Claim price plans, please note voided claims do incur a charge. This is because voiding can happen after a claim has been sent to the clearinghouse and/or PracticeAdmin has incurred other processing expenses for the claim. To avoid these charges, please Delete an invalid claim prior to Releasing it.)

Warning -- voiding a claim is not reversible.

To void a claim:
  1. Go to the Claim-General tab

  2. Enter a “Claim ID” and click “GO”

  3. Once the claim data has loaded on the Claim-General tab, click the "Void" button just above the Patient Name field

  4. Click Yes to confirm your request.
